How many times have you "reacted" in a stressful moment with your child that you later wish you could take back?
How often did you want more patience, understanding, and resilience to help your child through strong emotions, but you just did not have it in you?
If you care for a child with neurodevelopmental disabilities, you will likely give more than you have (giving from an empty bucket). Or you are living in a state of stress and overwhelm without realizing it, as this is your "normal" way of being.
Raising children with neurodevelopmental delays requires a very different approach and level understanding of our children's unique needs and challenges (as well as our own). This is why I have created a series of workshops to help parents mindfully navigate these challenges in a way that leaves us feeling empowered and our children supported and loved. The first workshop Mindfully Raising Neurodivergent Children Without Overwhelm will start at the end of this month.
This workshop is designed to help parents to...
Feel less overwhelmed, stressed, and have more patience to help both us & our children through stressful moments.
Have more energy and mental clarity to see things that bother or trigger us in a new light.
Model to our children how we want them to respond in stressful situations.
Begin the journey of mindfully parenting in a way that empowers our children and us to be the best versions of ourselves
The workshop starts on
Thursday, March 10th, 2022.
The live & interactive 6-week online workshop is limited to 10 parents and we will meet for 1-hour.
Step 1: With Knowledge Comes Power
Awareness is the first step towards change. We start with examining our current state of stress and wellbeing, our triggers, and examine the conscious and unconscious ways we approach challenging moments. Before we can begin taking the positive steps to feel less overwhelmed, we must take a closer look at where we are now, where we want to be, and how to get there.
Step 2: Increase Your Energy
We cannot give what we do not have. As parents or careGIVERS, we tend to give to the point that we are running on fumes. There is a way to bring back the balance of giving and receiving. In this module, you will get the tools and practices to create more balance between your needs and your child's. You will examine ways to increase your energy so you have the mental and physical strength to approach stressful moments mindfully.
Step 3: Develop a Healthy Mindset
Our thoughts can either help us through stressful moments or make things worse. We often do not even realize the impact our thoughts have on the current situation or challenge we are faced with. Together, we will explore what thoughts are stress "reducing" and stress "producing" and create an action plan to shift our thinking so we can face our problems with more confidence and ease.
Step 4: The New Normal
Information is critical, but without putting it into action, it is useless. When changing habits that we have had for many years, we must take specific steps to ensure we use these new tools and practices until healthier approaches to challenging situations become our new "normal.”

Meet Your Facilitator
I’m Dr. Elizabeth Joy Shaffer,
Pediatric Occupational Therapist, Mother, & Neurodiversity Advocate.
I have spent two decades working with children and parents worldwide. My passion is researching and sharing with others how to help our children (and ourselves) by combining Western & Eastern health-promoting practices. Bridging traditional evidence-based practices with the new approaches, we are just beginning to discover. The knowledge, tools, and support I give to parents and children come from my experiences and training as a therapist, a parent raising neurodivergent children, and a neurodivergent individual.
Frequently Asked Questions
Who is this for?
The program is specifically designed for parents raising children who are considered to be neurodivergent. Neurodiversity is a term used to describe individuals that process information internally (mind and body) and externally (environment and social situations) differently than others in a manner that can make performing specific tasks more difficult compared to others. Some of the diagnoses that fall under the umbrella of neurodiversity include; attention deficit disorders (ADD/ADHD), autism, anxiety, dyspraxia, dyslexia, obsessive-compulsive disorder, & sensory processing disorder.
Do I have time for this?
Absolutely! I know how busy neurodiverse families are, so I developed this program to give support and information in a way that creates less overwhelm, not add to it.
Can I afford it?
The changes you may see within the family from using the tools & practices within this program are priceless. Many of you may have already invested a lot of time and money in various therapies, and I have done my best to make sure this investment is one that you are glad you made. This 6-week program with an additional 6 months of support costs less than 2 individual therapy sessions.
Can two parents join together?
Yes, both parents can join under one registration.
